Upgrading a Power System

From: Joe Thompson

We recently had the occasion to upgrade our power system.  A friend directed us to Palmer Energy Systems in Lake City, Florida.  John Palmer has many years experience with RV energy systems, having installed them in literally hundreds of motor homes and trailers.  He maintains an extensive inventory of solar panels, solar controllers, both sine wave and modified sine wave inverters and controllers and all sizes of AGM batteries.  The most notable fact is the quality of his work in installing the systems.  He is absolutely the most meticulous technician I have ever had work on my RV.  If you have any interest in this type of upgrade for your coach, I highly recommend him.  E-Mail: john@palmerenergysystems.com.  Telephone: 941.928.4573.  Incidentally, if you would like to see examples of his work and talk with owners who have contracted with him, the following information may be of interest to you.  He will be hosting a free "Customer (past and future) Appreciation Gathering" at his place in Lake City, FL from October 26 through 30, 2005.  It will feature seminars and entertainment and will have a Halloween theme.  Palmer Energy Systems is located on an absolutely beautiful 500 acre site about six miles from Lake City.  It is like a nature preserve with all sorts of birds and animals.  The area is covered with enormous live oak trees.  There are numerous trails for hiking or biking.  John has space for approximately one hundred rigs.  This is strictly a "boondocking" site, so attendees are requested to arrive with full fresh water tanks and empty waste holding tanks.  There is no electric or water on the property.  Reservations are a must and can only be made by phone.  Call John at the above number.

A visit to the Ave Maria Grotto

We like to get off the beaten path from time to time and visit towns off the interstate highways.  Even the smallest towns often have an attraction with local or even national acclaim.  We found such attraction recently as we passed through Cullman, Alabama.  The Ave Maria Grotto, known throughout the world as "Jerusalem in Miniature" is a beautifully landscaped, four acre park designed to provide a natural setting for the 125 miniature reproductions of some of the most wonderful buildings and shrines in the world.  These masterpieces are the handiwork of Brother Joseph Zoettel, O.S.B. who was a monk at St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman for 70 years.  The buildings are miniature replicas of famous religious buildings and structures and were constructed from discarded pieces of building materials and household items.  Br. Joe built his first replica in 1912 and the last, the beautiful Lourdes Basilica Church replica in 1958 when he was 80 years old.  Brother Joe gathered ideas for his creations from extensive readings of history and the Bible.  Of all the replicas he had seen only six, those of his home town of Landshut, Bavaria and those of St. Bernard Abbey.  All the others were constructed from photos or from memory.  Over the years, as the fame of his creative genius spread, people sent him materials to include in  his construction.  The park, a national Registered Historic Landmark,  is on the spacious natural green grounds of St. Bernard,  which in addition to the Abbey and Grotto is home of a prep school and retreat and conference center.  St. Bernard Abbey can be found at 1600 St. Bernard Dr., S.E. in Cullman.  Telephone 256.734.8291 and website http://www.stbernardabbey.com/
